The Kharoti live at Paltu and Dwa Gomal, around Urgun and along the western slopes of the Sulaimans to Katawaz, and many were pawindah traders. Encyclopaedia Iranica counts them among the western Ghilzai under Turan.
Bellew treats the Kharoti as a separate tribe. Rose records that they call themselves an offshoot of the Tokhi, while the Tokhi say they descend from a foundling.
