Lineage
A working map of the relationships recorded in this archive. It is an editorial model, not a claim that every lineage is simple or uncontested.
Traditional ancestor of all Pashtun tribes in genealogies such as the 17th-century Makhzan-i Afghani. A figure of tradition, not a documented historical person.
Eldest son of Qais in traditional genealogy (Sarbanni in Dorn's translation). His line is said to include 105 tribes.
Son of Sarban in traditional genealogy. The Makhzan-i Afghani lists his sons as Sheerani, Taren (Tarin), Miana, Baraich and Ormar.
Son of Sharkhbun in the Makhzan-i Afghani's traditional genealogy, and ancestor of the Abdali line.
Descendants of Abdal (Avdal), son of Tarin, in traditional genealogy. The confederation was later known as Durrani.
Son of Sharkhbun in traditional genealogy. The Makhzan-i Afghani says he chose to be counted with the Ghurghusht line of his maternal grandfather, Kakar.
Son of Sarban in traditional genealogy. The Makhzan-i Afghani gives his sons as Gond, Jamand and Kasi.
Traced in traditional genealogy through Kharshbun's son Gond and grandson Sheikha, as recorded in the Makhzan-i Afghani.
Named in the Makhzan-i Afghani's traditional genealogy among the twelve sons of Kasi, son of Kharshbun.
Son of Qais in traditional genealogy (Batni or Baitan). His daughter Bibi Matu's line, called Mati, is linked to the Ghilzai and Lodi.
Traditionally descended from Bitan's daughter Bibi Matu and Shah Husain of Ghor, so counted through the maternal Mati line in the Makhzan-i Afghani.
Traced in traditional genealogy to Ibrahim, a son of Bibi Matu, whom Bitan is said to have named Lodi, meaning the elder.
Third son of Qais in traditional genealogy. The Makhzan-i Afghani gives his sons as Dani, Babi and Mandu.
Traced in traditional genealogy to Kakar, son of Dani and grandson of Ghurghusht, according to the Makhzan-i Afghani.
Traditional group whose place is told differently: the Makhzan-i Afghani treats it with the Ghurghusht line, while Elphinstone recorded Karlan (Kurleh) as a fourth son of Qais.
Traced in the Makhzan-i Afghani's traditional genealogy to Ourak, a son of Kodi, son of Kerrani (Karlan).
