Tribe · Adopted into the line
The Ormur live at Kaniguram in Waziristan, in Logar and in three villages south-east of Peshawar, and speak their own East Iranian language, Ormuri or Bargista. The Makhzan-i Afghani counts Ormur as the fifth son of Sharkhbun, or more exactly the son of the obscure Amerdeen, and Longworth Dames calls him an adopted son. They claim descent from Mir Barak, and the Imperial Gazetteer counts them with the Shaman Khel of the Mahsud.
Lee's copy of the Makhzan and the Khulasat al-Ansab make Ormar a blacksmith's daughter's son. Rose says their customs prove they are not Afghans, and Caroe writes that the Urmars are not Pathans.
The genealogy follows the Makhzan-i Afghani and the Khulasat al-Ansab, as Caroe tabulates them. It records tradition: where sources place a tribe differently, the note above says so.
