The Panni live at Sibi and in Musa Khel and Barkhan in Loralai, with colonies in the Deccan. In the traditional genealogy Panni is a son of Dani and a brother of Kakar. The Makhzan-i Afghani gives him eighteen sons, and the Khulasat al-Ansab says the Safi and Gadun descend from him.

The Gadun (Jadun) live south-east of the Peshawar and Hazara border, on Mahaban and in the Dor valley up to Abbottabad and Dhamtaur; those in Hazara had lost Pashto. The Khulasat al-Ansab and Caroe place them under Panni, and Rose gives their clans as Salar, Mansur and Hassanzai.

The Musa Khel are the Panni tribe of Musa Khel tahsil in Loralai, descended in tradition from Musa, son of Panni. Their clans are the Bel Khel and Laharzai.

The Safi live in Bajaur, the dales of Kunar and the Mohmand hills. They descend in tradition from Sabi (Safi), son of Panni. Caroe says they were probably the last of the Afghan tribes to accept Islam.
