The Ghoria Khel are the descendants of Ghori (Ghura), son of Gond, who moved from the headwaters of the Tarnak and Arghasan to the Peshawar plain south of the Kabul river. Bellew gives four divisions: Daulatyar (the Mohmand and Daudzai), Khalil, Chamkani and Zirani. The Khulasat al-Ansab says Ghori was first named Ibrahim.
The Khulasat al-Ansab leaves out Daulatyar and makes the Mohmand and Daudzai sons of Ghori directly, and says some hold the Chamkani and Zirani to be adopted.

The Chamkani live in north-eastern Kurram, at Kaniguram and around Peshawar. The Khulasat al-Ansab makes Chamkani a son of Ghori, and the 1910 Dictionary of the Pathan Tribes gives the clans as Khani Khel, Khwaja Khel, Bada Khel and Haji (Para) Khel.

The Daudzai live on the left bank of the Kabul river near Peshawar, down to its junction with the Bara. In the traditional genealogy Daud is a brother of Mohmand. Ibbetson gives the clans as Mandkai, Mamur and Yusuf, with the Mandkai divided into Husain, Nekai and Balo.

The Khalil hold the Peshawar plain facing the Khyber, on the left bank of the lower Bara, with some families at Kandahar. Ibbetson names four clans: Matuzai, Barozai, Ishaqzai and Tilarzai. The 1910 Dictionary of the Pathan Tribes says they are of the same origin as the Mohmand.

The Mohmand hold the hills north-west of Peshawar between the Kabul and Swat rivers, around Lalpura and Gandab, and lowland south-west of Peshawar south of the Bara. The two groups are the Bar (hill) Mohmand and the Plain Mohmand, whose sections Ibbetson gives as Mayazai, Musazai, Dawezai, Matanni and Sarganni. Bellew divides the tribe into the Darani and Khatuni.
