The Bakhtiar live with the Mian Khel at Draban, with a section at Margha, and were among the pawindah traders. The Makhzan-i Afghani traces them to Sayyid Abu Said, nicknamed Bakhtiar, who was raised among the Sherani; the Khulasat al-Ansab names him Seid Habib.
The Makhzan-i Afghani makes the Bakhtiar a Sayyid line raised among the Sherani; Rose calls them a section of the Bakhtiari of Persia, and Ibbetson describes them as affiliated to the Mian Khel.
دا شجره د مخزن افغاني او خلاصة الانساب پر بنسټ ده، لکه څنګه چې کیرو یې په جدولونو کې راوړې. دا دود ثبتوي: چېرته چې سرچینې یو قوم بل ځای ته منسوبوي، پورته یادونه یې ښيي.
