Tribe
The Tarin are a tribe of Pishin, Duki, Shahrig, Harnai and Thal-Chotiali, with a small colony at Haripur in Hazara. In the traditional genealogy Tarin is a son of Sharkhbun and the father of Tor, Spin and Abdal, so the Durrani are reckoned a Tarin branch.
The Makhzan-i Afghani gives Tarin three sons, Tor, Spin and Abdal; the Loralai gazetteer gives four, adding Zhar and calling Abdal Bor. Encyclopaedia Iranica's article "Abdali" makes Tarin a son of Kharshbun, against every other source consulted.
The genealogy follows the Makhzan-i Afghani and the Khulasat al-Ansab, as Caroe tabulates them. It records tradition: where sources place a tribe differently, the note above says so.
