The Sarwani descend in the traditional genealogy from a son of Shah Husain of Ghor. They once lived at Draban and Chandwan and were driven into Hindustan, and the ruling family of Malerkotla belongs to their Saripal clan. Dorn's Makhzan spells the name Sarbanni, which is easily confused with Sarban.
The Makhzan-i Afghani makes Sarwani a son of Shah Husain by Muhi, Kaghdoor's daughter. Lee's copy and the Khulasat al-Ansab make him a son of Bibi Matu, and Bellew gives his mother as Bibi Mahi, daughter of a Dom servant of Shaikh Bet.
The genealogy follows the Makhzan-i Afghani and the Khulasat al-Ansab, as Caroe tabulates them. It records tradition: where sources place a tribe differently, the note above says so.
