Tribe · Sayyid lineage
The Ushtarani are a tribe of the eastern Sulaiman slopes on the Dera Ismail Khan and Dera Ghazi Khan border. The Makhzan-i Afghani counts them among the Sayyid lines numbered with the Pathans, descended from Sayyid Muhammad Gisudaraz by a Sherani wife. Rose describes them as a former Sherani section that became a separate tribe, with two main clans, the Ahmadzai and Gagalzai.
The genealogy follows the Makhzan-i Afghani and the Khulasat al-Ansab, as Caroe tabulates them. It records tradition: where sources place a tribe differently, the note above says so.
